Data Request

Looking to see visitor data for a specific location within Marquette County? Travel Marquette utilizes two different platforms, Placer.ai and Datafy to gather information. The data is collected utilizing cell phone usage to track people within a specific boundary or location. 

This data can be used as a general estimate to determine the number of people within a specific location.  There are a few factors that play into the accuracy of geofencing data. 

Some of those factors include: the device user/owner must be over 18 years of age, not everyone has a cell phone, location settings may be turned off, a person may not have their cell phone with them at certain locations, events, etc, and cell phone service can be spotty at certain locations, so there can be a loss in accuracy. 

To request data, the sample size has to be more than 500 people within a location boundary for a specific time frame, otherwise the data becomes very generalized. For example, with a small sample size, the date range increases, providing an estimate for the week of an event vs. the day of an event. 

Available Locations

• Travel Marquette has the ability to geofence any location within the state of Michigan. 

• Any city, town or township within Marquette County

• Local businesses, restaurants, lodging & accommodations, airports, and retail chains 

• Recreation areas, parks, trails, trailheads, etc. (Click the link to view the map of currently available locations)

• Streets, intersections or traffic areas of concern

Note: There are some restrictions with the data collection. Geofence boundaries cannot be placed around schools, or places that are specific to children for safety reasons. Medical facilities are also unavailable to view through the protection of HIPPA. 

If a location is not already available, please allow up to three weeks for a location to become "live".
