Waterfalls and Outdoor Adventures

If you are looking for some outdoor fun, there are countless activities to do here any time of year. 

During the winter months, ski fresh U.P. powder at Marquette Mountain Resort or snowshoe scenic and serene trails at Presque Isle Park. In the springtime, chase the northern lights or grab some local bites al fresco, and in the summer, hit the trails or cool off at sandy Lake Superior beaches.

Whatever type of traveler you are, there’s something for you here. So, come for the outdoors, and stay for everything else.

Historic Lighthouses

Marquette County, Michigan is home to a handful of historic lighthouses that offer tours, like the Marquette Harbor Lighthouse. This bright-red historical landmark, originally built in 1853, served to provide safe travels to ships entering the city of Marquette. The lighthouse, which also features views of Lake Superior, was replaced in 1866 and has gone through extensive modifications ever since. Today, it’s also home to a maritime museum.

For a more general history lesson of the county as a whole, pay a visit to the Marquette Regional History Center, which puts on diverse exhibits year-round, perfect for the entire family.

Museums, Arts, & Culture

Marquette County, Michigan has an artsy side that’ll inspire you. From the canvas to the stage, there are many ways to take in the area’s museums, art, and culture scene. 

Attend any one of the national and international art exhibits put on by the Devos Art Museum at Northern Michigan University. Spend a night listening to the rich sounds of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra. Or hit up a live stage performance, a play or musical, at Lake Superior Theatre, a local gem found inside a Marquette boathouse, which undoubtedly provides a unique theatrical experience to patrons. 

For a little bit of everything, visit the Marquette Arts & Culture Center, located inside the Peter White Public Library, which hosts lecture and musical series as well as art exhibits year-round.
